Mr. Jim Switcher

Hello!  Let me first say how honored I am to be a part of Washington Middle School.  The safety and education of all my students is my number one priority.  If there are ever any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I teach 5th and 6th grade math here at Washington Middle School.  Before coming to WMS, I taught 8th grade math for 9 years, 7th grade math for 5 years, and 6th grade math for 6 years.  Fifth grade math, so far, has been another exciting adventure!  The kiddos have been amazing and a joy to work with!

I am also the head coach of the junior high girls varsity basketball team. I have coached middle school boy/girls basketball for more than 15 years.  Since coming to Illinois, I have been a part of three regional titles and one state runner up with boys.  I enjoy coaching and helping young athletes understand the importance of teamwork on and off the court.  Sports can prepare young adults to become productive and effective members of society, and I love being a part of that.

A real quick "About me".  I have been involved in education since 2005.  I earned my  Masters in Curriculum and Design in 2012.  I am originally from Corinth, Mississippi.  I taught in MS for five years.  I also spent several years working as a basketball and softball official.  I have taught 6-8 Mathematics in MS, TN, KY and IL.

On a personal note, I own a small construction company (Built Better Construction).  I am married (9 years).  I have two children (24 and 30 yrs old), three step children (19, 21, 24 yrs old) and two granddaughters (5 & 7 yrs old) with another on the way in 2022!
