Dear Johnston City CUSD #1 Families,
We have just completed our first week of remote learning. It has been quite a learning experience for all of us as we tackle this new education format. We appreciate everyone’s patience and willingness to work together.
According to our original plan we were scheduled to return to a 4 day a week schedule for all in-person learning next week. At this time it has become necessary for the District to modify this plan and continue to follow the A/B schedule through the end of the first nine weeks. This is due to several factors; IDPH and the Illinois State Board of Education are routinely changing our school guidelines and making them more restrictive, exclusion and quarantine requirements for staff and students are becoming more restrictive, rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Williamson county, and last week IDPH moved our county from an overall stable rating to “Orange” status which means per IDPH there are warning signs of increased COVID-19 risks in our county. Even as we face the challenge of these ever changing factors it is our goal as a district to keep our students in school with in person learning taking place as long as possible.
The A/B schedule has allowed us to keep students and staff learning and teaching in person while keeping them safe with reduced class sizes and maintaining social distancing requirements. We are very proud of the dedication of our students and staff as they work to navigate this new educational environment.
Johnston City CUSD #1 Families and Staff,
We have been working on our Return to School Plan for the 2020-21 school year over the past few months. During this time the district prepared educational plans and operational protocols, based on guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Illinois Department of Health (IDPH), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the state’s five-phase reopening plan, Restore Illinois. In addition, over the summer the district administered a survey to all parents in the district, in which they could provide feedback about the reopening of school. Please click on the link below to view the plan and a brief overview.
