The Johnston City Middle School and High School Student Council participated in this year's Polar Plunge.
The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking icy dips into a pool full of water.
Our students raised more than $2000 for the Special Olympics. We want to say thank you to everyone who donated and to the Student Council for taking the plunge!
These photos show our middle school students bravely jumping into the cold waters! BURR!

Enjoy the outdoors and get some practice in! 🏃♀️🏃 We'll have Track Open Field this afternoon from 3-4:30 p.m.
This is in preparation for Track tryouts this week on Wednesday and Thursday also from 3-4:30 p.m.

📚✏️ It's an IMPORTANT week for our 5th and 6th graders. 📚✏️
Those students are taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness. This testing shows how well students are learning and growing, compared to their peers statewide.
It also provides a balanced picture of student performance in conjunction with local assessments, classroom grades, and other measures like attendance.

Washington Middle School students put their engineering skills to the test in an exciting STEM challenge—building the tallest freestanding paper tower! 📄🔧 With nothing but paper and tape, teams worked together to design and construct their way to new heights.
This hands-on activity encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity, showing that even the simplest materials can be used to build something incredible!
One last reminder -- all schools have early dismissal today at 11:30 a.m.

Friendly reminder: Tomorrow, March 21st, is a Half Day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m.

It's time to celebrate our 5th and 6th Boys Basketball players with a team party!
We had a season to remember from learning new skills on the court, to overcoming challenges and creating new friendships!
We'll see you tonight at 5!

March is Music in our Schools month 🎵🎵 A time of year to raise awareness about the importance of music education for all children, and the educators who are in the classroom teaching students the fundamentals of music and how to build on them.
Today, we're highlighting Mr. Smith, who has a deep passion for music education and years of experience as a band director. He brings music, inspiration, and a whole lot of rhythm to Washington Middle School and Johnston City High School.

Friday, March 28 will be a 1:50 dismissal.
🧩 Teamwork in action at Washington Middle School! 🧩
In anticipation of the upcoming Puzzle Race sponsored by the Johnston City Public Library this Thursday night, reading classes at WMS competed in their own race.
All teams attempted to complete the same 300 piece puzzle within 30 minutes, and these six students finished in just under 30 minutes!
