Washington Middle School is continuing to participate in Red Ribbon Week, highlighting the prevention of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
This afternoon, WMS Counselor Mrs. Huey gave a presentation on the negative impacts of drug and substance abuse, including opioids. One goal of this campaign is to show students
that they live their best life when they stay drug-free.

It's officially middle school basketball season! 🏀 We're "passing" it back to Washington Middle School's 7th- and 8th-grade Boys and Girls Basketball teams.
During the 2001-2002 season, these student-athletes showed teamwork, school spirit, and determination!

Our 8th-grade Advanced Math students are diving deep into the world of functions using graphing calculators!
Students are discovering how equations come to life as they graph functions, seeing math in action right before their eyes.

On October 24, the Illinois Association of School Social Workers honored Cheri Litton of The J.C. Manna Mission with its Citizen of the Year Award during the organization’s annual conference in Springfield.
Litton was nominated by Washington Middle School Social Worker Ashley Huey in recognition of her dedication to supporting children and families in the Johnston City School District.
Mrs. Huey attended the event along with Lincoln Elementary 3rd-grade teacher Melanie Emery, who is Litton’s daughter.

This Friday night is round one of the IHSA 2A Playoffs between our Johnston City Indians and the Wesclin Warriors. It's also Halloween, and you can celebrate both! 🎃 Kindergarten through 4th-grade students are encouraged to wear their full costumes!

On Halloween, the Boys will compete in the RLC shootout versus Benton!

🎲 Math in Action at WMS 🎲
Learning probability is anything but ordinary in Mrs. McCluskie’s Math Lab at Washington Middle School!
Students explored probability stations using everyday math items to see how chance and outcomes work in real life. Hands-on learning makes math come alive.

History came to life for our 6th graders during their field trip to the Fort Massac Encampment!
Students stepped back in time to experience what daily life was like in the 1700s and 1800s for American, French, and British troops as well as Native Americans. They explored hands-on demonstrations like blacksmithing, basket weaving, and hide tanning, discovering the essential skills people once relied on to survive.
A big thank you to the reenactors and organizers who made this living history experience unforgettable for our students!

Our WMS students celebrated positive behavior in a BIG way with a field trip to the local skating rink for their PBIS party!
Students had a blast roller skating, playing arcade games, winning lots of prizes, and socializing with their friends!

This is a great example of our JCHS students inspiring our middle school students, sharing their passion for agriculture, leadership, and hands-on learning with younger students.
