Exciting News for JC Youth
Little Indians Boys & Girls Basketball League is Back! 🏀
Registration is officially opening for students in Kindergarten through 6th Grade!
The season runs from September through mid-December (wrapping up right before Christmas). We understand that several players participate in fall sports; please note that fall sports take priority over this league until those seasons conclude.
Season Details:
Practices: Held weekday evenings between 6:00 PM and 8:30 PM (20+ practices anticipated throughout the season).
Games: 20+ games across multiple local leagues.
Locations: Games will be held in Johnston City gyms, as well as West Frankfort and Harrisburg (hosted by the Harrisburg Youth League).
Halftime Showcase: Youth teams will get to showcase their skills during halftime at every home High School Boys Basketball game (2–4 teams per night)!
Following the rec season, players can also look forward to Travel Tribe opportunities.

WMS Softball vs Carterville will take place today (8/13/26) at the Oasis Sports Complex Dome @ 4:30.
NEW UPDATED TIME for the WMS Boys Baseball Game tomorrow. Game will be at home vs Crab Orchard and will begin at 6pm.
Baseball/Softball practices have been moved to 6pm-8pm, due to the heat advisory. Please make sure your child brings water with them to practice. The teams will also have water and cooling towels on hand.

Baseball update for 8/11
Monday morning, incoming 5th Graders were welcomed to Washington Middle School at WEB Orientation. Students met their 8th Grade WEB Leaders, toured the building, and participated in several different activities aimed at preparing them to be as successful as possible in middle school. We are so excited to see what amazing things this group of 5th graders will accomplish in their time at Washington!

WEB Leaders were on hand to welcome 5th graders into the building this morning. They also helped with opening lockers and making sure everyone found their homebase classroom in a timely manner.
These 8th grade students have given their time this summer to train and prepare for their role as WEB leaders, and we are so proud of them for their commitment and dedication to the WEB mentoring and transition program and for helping to create a welcoming environment in our school!

Hey, Incoming 5th Graders! It's almost time! WEB Orientation is MONDAY, August 3 in the Washington Middle School gym. This orientation is for 5th grade students only. Students should dress comfortably, and should not bring anything with them - including cell phones. The east entrance doors will open promptly at 8:00 am. Parents can pick up students at 12:00 on the scout cabin loop. We can't wait to meet you and welcome you to middle school! Hello 5th Grade Parents!
We are very excited that your child will be attending Washington Middle School, and we look forward to seeing them at our 5th Grade Orientation Day on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 8:00 AM in the middle school gym. Our WEB Program will help get your 5th grader off to a great start!
WHAT IS WEB?
WEB is a nationwide program designed to welcome and support 5th graders by connecting them with WEB Leaders, who are positive, responsible, hand-selected 8th graders. Your student's WEB Leaders will help them feel more comfortable as well as help them achieve success in their first year of middle school. Doesn't that sound great? It is!
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
1. A day or two before orientation, your child will receive a phone call from their WEB Leader personally inviting them to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time. The Leaders can also answer any questions they may have.
2. Your student is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items as the day is quite active;
3. Because the day is active, please make sure that your student wears comfortable clothing and shoes that do not restrict movement;
4. Cell phone use is forbidden on this day.
5. Pickup time will be 12:00.
6. This is a student only function so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own.
Please, however, attend the Parent Orientation that evening in the school cafeteria. We look forward to a great orientation day!
