This week, the Regional Office of Education #21 and the Area VI McKinney-Vento Homeless Education program are shining a light on the issue by launching the Paint the Town Purple initiative.
Johnston City Schools is participating by placing these signs outside of our unit office and school buildings. Businesses, organizations, and individuals can also take part by wearing purple or lighting up billboards in purple.

This distinction places Jefferson Elementary in the top 10% of Illinois' highest-performing elementary schools!
This incredible achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families, who make learning a priority every single day.

At Jefferson Elementary, Ms. Boyd's class got into the holiday spirit by breaking out watercolors for a fun, art-filled afternoon.
These kindergarten students added their own artistic twist to a Frankenstein-inspired character, gluing the pieces together and painting everything from his bandage to his suit.

Our Jefferson staff has planned an evening of family fun, featuring a chili supper and nearly a dozen carnival games. Plus, a variety of raffle baskets, including:
🎃 JC-themed basket
🎃 Movie night - sweets
🎃 Game night/board games
🎃 Movie night - chocolates
🎃 Self-care/spa
🎃 Fall-themed basket
🎃 Christmas-themed basket
🎃 Cooking and baking basket
There will be many other basket raffles and raffle items from local businesses the night of the carnival. Come join us on Thursday, October 30th, from 5 to 8 p.m.

We want our families, fans, and visitors to have a positive, friendly, and safe atmosphere. Here are some reminders regarding the upcoming game.

This photo brings back so many great memories of teamwork, school pride, and the unstoppable spirit of our Lady Indians.
Do you recognize a familiar face who’s still part of the Johnston City Schools family?

Our students have been working with five frames to build a strong foundation in addition. By using counters and visual models, students are learning how numbers combine to make five and having fun while doing it!

Remember, always stop when the stop-arm is out for school buses—it’s the law! ✋ 🛑 Flashing red lights and a stop sign ALWAYS mean it's time to keep kids safe.

In September, Mrs. Fietsam's class discussed apples, and students participated in several activities related to apples. This included an exercise identifying the parts of an apple, including the stem, core, skin, and seeds.
The first-grade class ended the month in the most delicious way, making homemade applesauce in the crockpot!

We've had a huge response to our Primary STEAM Enrichment program. Please remember that we switched to a grade-by-grade rotation so every child gets small-group, hands-on activities tailored to their interests and ability levels.
Who meets when?
• October: 2nd Grade — Wednesdays, starting Oct 8
• November: 1st Grade
• December: Kindergarten
• January: 2nd Grade
• February: 1st Grade
• March: Kindergarten
• April: 2nd Grade
• May: We’ll see how many students remain and may plan some fun end-of-year activities together
We know a rotating schedule can be tricky—we’ll send reminders and updates so you’ll always know when it’s your child’s turn.
